What is Options Trading?Options trading is an enhanced high-risk, high-reward strategy. It allows buyers an opportunity to purchase or sell an underlying asset (typically shares of stock) at a predetermined price at or before contract expiration.

Do you need $25,000 in order to trade options?Options contracts vary in value, with the cheapest being $1. However, in order to open and close positions in the same trading day without restrictions, many brokers require a $25,000 minimum account value. For example, purchasing a contract at 10:00am for $100 and then selling that contract at 12:00pm on the same trading day is considered a day trade. It is worth noting that several brokers allow 3-4 day trades (within a 5 day period) for all account sizes.
